3 Reasons You Need Dermaplaning

March 29, 2023

One of the most popular skin treatments these days is dermaplaning, which involves gently running a scalpel across the face in a manner that is similar to shaving. Many celebrities stand by the treatment, which is essentially an exfoliating procedure that removes dead skin cells and vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz.

Would you like to give dermaplaning a try? Here are three reasons you should.

1. No chemicals and abrasive processes involved

Most skin treatments require the use of certain chemicals or abrasive processes, and dermaplaning uses neither. Unlike chemical peels and microdermabrasion, dermaplaning only requires a scalpel, dramatically reducing the risks of irritation or adverse reactions.

2. No pain

You’d think that the use of a sharp instrument on your face would hurt, but dermaplaning doesn’t cause you any pain. Compared to other exfoliating techniques, dermaplaning is a much safer procedure. As long as you leave the whole thing to the pros, the chances of getting nicked and feeling pain are next to zero.

3. Younger and healthier skin

Dermaplaning doesn’t just remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz. It also rids your skin of impurities and toxins. It can also help with hyperpigmentation or photodamage. If you have dark spots, wrinkles, and fine lines, then go for a dermaplaning session and improve your overall complexion within 40 minutes!

Who can undergo dermaplaning?

Whatever your skin type, you can get dermaplaning done, although it’s absolutely recommended for people with dry and dull skin. There are exceptions, though.

It is not advisable for those with cystic acne. It’s okay for those who only experience regular pimples, but they do have to wait for them to subside if they don’t want the pain and mess that come with accidentally nicking them with the scalpel. Razor rashes might also happen to those with thick, excessive facial hair.

Never do dermaplaning yourself

It’s tempting to go the DIY route when it comes to dermaplaning, given that the procedure sounds so simple. It can be dangerous though because you can always nick your face accidentally with the scalpel.

The results will also not be as great, because you don’t have the training for it unlike the doctors and medical aestheticians who regularly perform the procedure.

You can try to DIY dermaplaning, but never forget that you can only get the best possible results if you get it done by professionals who do it regularly inside a trusted dermatology clinic.
